little man (UPDATE)

trying to do some nice flash stuff for my showreel (coz i suck at flash, to many ways to do things). i really like those Robinson ad's, they're really nice. i think it's flash? but if it is, i haven't got a clue how the make it look like pastels? if anyone could shed some light, shine it my way.

anyways the ad made me wanna do a my designs in a pastel style.

Here's a little drawing i did so i could make a flash version.

and here's the flash version, i tried to give it a pastel kinda look by drawing the lines in illustrator first, but i think that's gonna be tricky keep that up when i'm animating...sigh...if any ones got any good ideas i'm all ears, or as i'd be reading it, i'm all eyes.

i don't like this version as much, i think something has very much got lost in translation...
any feedback would be great.

Shion is obsessed with those adverts - I really like your version. Definitely has a bit of Timbo in him.

Oh yeah I got your voicemail about the cd that you forgot to send - that is good news. Have you heard anything since?

I can't remember when they said they were going to let us know by...

Hope things are good

oh and on a more constructive level I really like the proportions of this guy. Lookin forward to seein him move! I imagine him scampering around really quickly with those little legs.

The only way I see emulating the example is to hand paint the pastel rendering in painter. Sometimes there isn't a easy work around just cold hard stuff from the gut.

P.S. Thanks for the comments

Kev worked on those adverts!. He did a couple of the characters jumping in puddle, the pink and purple ones.I think they got the pastle look by using after effects, I'll ask him.

Did you like the monkey opera?.

Michelle - thats amazing! kev did a sterlin job! that particular one is my favourite, i like the kid who does the little dance and waves his arms :)

if you could ask him that would be soooooooooo cool, because i'm not diggin that vector look, i'd love to pick his brains about how that was done?

Those robinson ad's are beautiful. Kevin is the caravaggio of animators.
This design will look perfect with the fab animation i've seen. The pacing on it is excellent. Well done

Timbo have fun in Norway man! They yoddle right? Drop a drunken yoddle'lay'he'who on my behalf.

This character looks so mischievous, you can tell straight away. Nice colouring too, subtle. That Robinsons advert is really cute, have you seen that stop motion Carphone Warehouse advert? That is sooooo good too. Have fun man, see you when you get back.

Hi Timb, hope your good. I like the pastel design but for some reason I prefer the Flash one. I dont know why. Maybe its the fact that you dont have the same control you have with a pencil so you get some quirks. Look forward to the moving lil' man. I'll call you in the week or something to catch up!
