Just words and my new mate

I’m mega pissed off! My computer broken down on Christmas Eve. So i can't post any of the designs i've been working on, not that there's much to post anyway, been working loads during the chrimbo period. i just read through some of the older posts on my blog... and they seem to be full of empty, unfulfilled promises. I’m sorry (for those of you who care

I’m gonna post my character biography in a lame attemped to keep my blog updated.

So with out further-ado let me introduce Theodore Prince Boxman

Theodore Prince Boxman

Character biography

Theodore prince Boxman (born 7th June 1981). He was named after the 26th American president and explorer, Theodore Roosevelt, and his parent’s favorite musician, Prince. Theodore was actually conceived at one of Prince’s early gigs at First Avenue, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is his parent’s home town. Shortly before Theodore was born his parents Marty and Jennifer Boxman moved to London to head the marine department at London zoo. They settled in Paddington.

Sadly in the summer of 1999 both his parents were killed whilst testing a new shark repellent. Theodore watched as his parent’s successfully repelled two great white sharks, unfortunately the repellent attracted giant jelly fish (a problem that was later ironed out) that stung his parents to death. Theodore now makes a small fortune from his parent’s invention, but hates to go out in wide open spaces, local swimming pools and refuses to eat jelly.

When Theodore was a young child the other kids were constantly making fun of his name. At the time when he was growing up he shared his name with a three inch talking chipmunk with a funny voice. The constant name teasing was the reason enough for Theodore changed his name to Prince, however, the numerous references to a short weirdly dressed Androgynous man in cuban heels lead to even more name teasing. He then changed it to his first initials: T.P, and that worked for a while until the “T.P for my bum hole” episode of Beavis and butthead aired on channel 4 in the 90’s. His peers soon realized that the initials stood for toilet paper and it was back to the constant piss taking. so he change it back to Theodore again. Because of this weird history of name changing, Theodore now has a strong dislike to Prince and his music; Prince William and Harry (but mainly because they’re sloaney socialite dicks); and Alvin and the chipmunks.

In fact Theodore doesn’t like any music unless it has reference to a movie or TV show, and links most of his daily activities to movie soundtracks. I.e. he always listens to “Flight of the Valkyries” from Apocalypse Now while he’s pooing, and if it’s been an emotional bog roll clenching, all clothes off (including watches),bum stinging, sweaty battle poo, he’ll play 'It's Over' ('Good-Bye') from ‘terminator 2 judgment day’ sound track whilst flushing.

Since his parents have died, Theodore stop going out and purchases all his shopping from, or he calls out for takeaway food. As a result most of his friends with in the first year gave up on trying getting him out, and he now only has a couple of close friends who go around his two bedroom flat and visit him from time to time. The only time Theodore leaves his flat is to visit his parent’s graves, but only in full Robocop attire (he’s recently been persuaded to keep it to a 3 piece minimum, foot wear, upper body armor and helmet)

Hello Again

Just some sketches from the last couple of weeks. Other than my daily train sketching, I’ve not really done anything creative, and it's kind of getting to me. So I’ve been working on a concept and developing a character (which was in my last post) with a whole biography, it's easier for me to design and draw a character when I know a little more about him. So I’ve kind of been putting off posting because I wanted the character concepts to be the next post but because I’ve only had time to write about him and not draw him, I thought I better post something else.

I’d like to thank everyone who has been leaving me comments, it’s really enjoyable reading your kind words, however with this post, if you choose to leave a comment, I would really appreciate a critique on my drawings. I would like to know what you like and dislike, how you think I could improve, and what areas you think I should develop more.
I’ve got a day off tomorrow (finally!) so I’ll be work on my project. expect to see an update soon (I know I always say that, but I meant it this time)

sorry for the lack of post recently. my internets been down, so what blogging i've been doing, it's been from my girl friends home and at work. but i figured that i would do my scanning at home, save to my pen drive, and post where ever i can.
so here's some more life drawings.

the top drawings are of me and my girlfriend. she drew me and i drew her.

she wasn't to happy with the drawing of her (it isn't very good, she's much better)

but i have to say i'm not that flattered by the way she's drawn me, but i have to admit, it does look like me hahahaha

Inspiration from life

I feel a lot of people who are producing art are not taking their inspiration from life. I feel that a creative gift or skill should be guided by some pure i.e. life.

I’ve been talking a lot recently to a couple of my close friends about inspiration; what they and I think makes art and creativity so interesting. I think sharing messages and thoughts is the key.

This is what these discussions have concluded. Choose your medium to communicate your messages. Your mind is the creative part so pick a medium, whether it's music, writing, film, animation, painting, sculpture, and share yourself via it.

so here is my life drawing from today the last couple days

this is a poem by my friend that i find inspiring.

Merely about doing

“Underestimating yourself is the beginning of not achieving”

Instead of telling yourself I can’t, just do.

The way you do that is, stop becoming your thought and start becoming your action.

When thinking hard about the action you want to do, a lot of the time you think yourself out of doing It. Which is the enemy within yourself.

Just become your action,

Get a clear mind, find your focus, your comfort zone, and go for it. Your actions are the only thing worth living for.

an independent thinker.

enjoying drawing

I'm starting to really enjoy drawing again. i think that when i started to amimate things i realized how good you have to be in order to create strong form and expression. i think that i used to get bogged down by that and it used to make me hate myself everytime i put pencil to paper. i've not drawn any animation for months now which is bad, but i've really got into drawing on the train or at a bus stop or wherever, and weather it be a good or a bad drawing i just enjoy making the marks.

i'm not gonna do any drawn animation until i can get a line tester set up in my house, so until i've saved the money to get a shitty laptop and a shitty camera with some sorta stand, your gonna just have to make do with drawings.

hopefully it won't take me too long.

and i've got so much reading to do. i.e. the illusion of life, Walt Stanchfiel drawing notes, then re-read animators survival kit.

N.Y trip

just got back from no less than new york city. I had so much fun! here's some drawings from my n.y sketch book.

the next 3 pages were done in the M.O.M.A

the drawings in the page below were done in some rotten club while i was pissed up (drunk) i was looking at them the next day and i thought it was interesting to see what i had focus on, they seem to be very simplified.

Back by popular demand

For those of you who are wondering what the hell have I’ve been doing? And why I haven’t posted in so long? Well... there's no good reason...I’ve just been feeling sorry for myself. I’ve still been keeping the drawing up, just haven't done a good’erns in ages. But I have to remind myself that I started this blog to document my progress (even if it means documenting my regression :))

Anyways, I’ve also not done any digital work for a long time, so I finished off a Spiderman drawing I started about 4 months ago (that I found while under my desk, when I was cleaning my disgusting bedroom today, they don't call me messy Timbo for nothing) so I decided to colour it. I drop it on top of a background i did when I was practising bg's for my final project.

Well I think that covers everything...I’m going to start animating again tomorrow. I might even do another post by the end of the week.

more sketches.

i'm gonna start on some animation real soon. i finish uni now, so i need to set up some kinda line tester at home. if i don't manage to do that some time in the next week i'll start drawing into flash and let that act as a digital line tester.

but i'm itching to animate something on paper, so i'll try and do that first.

but until then you'll have to make do with some transport sketches.

Background mood concept

i'm very new to drawing backgrounds and layouts, and there's alot in my final project. i'm working with my good pal shouren, and he seems very confidant doing the bg's. and because i want them to look good, he's going to be drawing them :), with a little art direction from me. i've been creating some mood boards today and i did my first digital painting with the kinda atmosphere i want in our film.

let me know what you think?

here's some sketches i did for my final project which have been rejected. we've change the character to a skater girl from skater guy. if you didn't know, one in two people are female, and out of 6 characters in are original crew, only one is a girl, so now there's two...still not completely p.c but it's a gesture.
no, in all seriousness, we needed to make the two adult character a very different shape, so making one female was a good solution.

there's only a couple of pages from my sketch book. i scanned loads, about 25 pages(it took me bloody ages), and i was going to do this fat sketch book post. guess what happen? that wright, my good old trusty computer crash on me. there's no way on gods green earth i'm doing that again. so i'm only giving you a couple.

some of the colours have came out a bit wierd, i don't know what the hell i did in photoshop to make that happen, coz when i saved them they were fine. anywho, thanks for looking

2d + 3d = This

This week someone from the 3d side of the course was paired with someone from the 2d side.

I got paired up with the very talented Edwin...urm...i don't think i know what his second name is. Anyways, we got given a piece of lip-sync and we had to come up with a scene based of that.

So here it is, and like always, I’d like to know what you think?

here you go

Here's some old and new pictures from my latest sketch book. one of my bro(i just had a good look at it and the back of his head looks wrong), one of my girlfriend hard at work, and two pages i did on the train (the weird dude with an eye in the middle of his head wasn't someone on the train). i need to draw more on the train, i need to improve my quick drawings, use less lines or something.
Anyway, let me know what you think. give me some pointers.
